The best player in the world will face Ghana in a few weeks, but he doesn’t scare the Stars.
That’s according to Ghana captain Asamoah Gyan.
“I am not bothered because we are playing Portugal because the World Cup is the biggest stage and there are no small teams. Every team who qualifies has done so on merit.”
Speaking to the official Ghana FA site, the Black Stars captain notes how tough Group G – with Portugal, USA and Germany – will be.
“Ronaldo is the world player (of the year) and there is no doubt that he is critical to the cause of the Portuguese team but for us we are not going to be distracted because of him,” Gyan told ghanafa.org.
Cristiano is the all-time scorer of Portugal. Asamoah is all-time scorer for Ghana. Cristiano is Portugal captain. Gyan is Ghana captain.
Ronaldo has scored 50 times for his club Real Madrid. Gyan has scored 45 times in 42 games for his club Al Ain.
“We are playing against the best and we cannot do anything about that, we just have to get ourselves ready,” the 28-year old former Sunderland man said.
