This story will break your heart. The corpse of Ayahana Comb, a 9-year-old girl who suffered from cerebral palsy was discovered in the refrigerator of her family’s apartment in Houston, Texas.
 

The little girl’s body was found by a neighbor who claimed to have become concerned after not seeing Ayahna Comb around the building for five months. The neighbor said that the apartment door was unlocked when he went in to check on the girl and instead found her body.

According to KHOU, police and paramedics arrived on the scene shortly thereafter and confirmed the girl’s death, estimating her body had been in the fridge for at least one month and probably longer.

After conducting a preliminary investigation into the girl’s parents, law enforcement officials received a statement from the mother and caretaker, Amber Keyes, admitting to placing the body in the refrigerator after the girl stopped breathing on January 29. The cause of death remains uncertain, although the girl’s body reportedly weighed 17 pounds.

According to additional reports, the girl’s father, Armand Comb, claimed that he believed the child was still alive. He also claimed that he had seen his daughter two months ago, contradicting Keyes’ report that the girl had died in January. Both parents are currently under further investigation.

Keyes also has a five-year-old daughter, and she reportedly hid the older sister’s death from the younger girl. She also continued to collect Social Security Disability income and food stamps for her daughter after her death.

“It’s devastating to everyone. We loved her. All loved her,” said Kathi Combs, the victim’s grandmother.

Now the family is trying to get custody of their only surviving niece.
