1:44:25 PM Student nurses & Midwives hit the streets over unpaid allowances | |
The Ghana Nurses and Midwives Trainees Association on Monday hit the streets of Accra to protest the non-payment of their allowances.
The student nurses are also demanding the release of their clearance letters, the payment of book and research, clinical as well as transportation allowances due them for the past two years. The clearance form facilitates the release of their allowances. They demonstrated through the principal streets of Accra from the Obra Spot at the Kwame Nkrumah Circle towards the Health Ministry. Citi News’ Magdalene Larnyoh reported that the nurses numbering over 500 refused to submit their petition to the Deputy Health Minister. “They [nurses] said per the agreement they had with the Minister as at Friday, she was supposed to come and receive it and also give them an immediate response,” she said. According to her, the nurses are threatening to wait on the premises of the Ministry until they are addressed by the sector Minister herself. They also threatened to march to the Flagstaff House if their demands are not met.
