A 22-year-old national of Gabon has been arrested on suspicion of stabbing an Ivorian to death at Weiman in Accra.

John Maviane, a student of the Ambassador University College at Lapaz, is believed to have struggled with the 24-year-old Ivorian, Madeleine Josian E. Souaduo, before stabbing her in the abdomen several times.

The police also discovered that the Ivorian was stabbed in the neck and right hand. 

Mob action 

Relating the incident, the Accra Regional Crime Officer,  Chief Superintendent of Police, Mr Paul Kontoma, said about 4:30p.m. last Thursday, the police received information that a man was being beaten by a mob.

“A patrol team was dispatched to the scene, and when the police arrived the mob had pounced on a man who had emerged from the room of Madeleine with a laptop under his armpit,” he said.

He said the mob which had initially suspected that Maviane was a thief started beating him when the body of Madeleine was found in a pool of blood in her room.

He said a search on the suspect led to the retrieval of a kitchen knife with blood stains on it.

Eyewitness account 

A man who raised the alarm for the arrest of the suspect claimed that he had been invited by Madeleine to fix an electrical gadget for her in her room.

He said on knocking at her door, a different voice asked him to wait outside.

After a long wait, the eyewitness said, he saw Maviane escaping from the lady's room through a back door with the laptop and his face covered, a development which caused him to raise the alarm that Maviane was a thief.

Police interrogation

Mr Kontoma said during interrogation, Maviane told the police that he had been a friend of the lvorian for about seven months.

According to the suspect, he had visited the lady three days earlier and left his ipad and had gone back for it that Thursday.

He claimed that the two of them smoked for a while and when he decided to leave, Madelin prevented him from doing so and pulled out a kitchen knife and threatened to stab him.

He said Maviane further claimed to have engaged in a struggle with Madeleine, overpowered her and ended up stabbing her.
