Mr Mathew Amponsah, Chief State Attorney, on Monday told the Financial Court hearing the case of Mr Alfred Agbesi Woyome, a businessman that the judgement debt paid to the accused person was illegal. He alleged that the accused person obtained the judgement from a court of competent jurisdiction by fraud. Mr Amponsah made this known during a cross-examination of the accused in Accra. The Trade Union Congress, TUC has asked the country’s legislature not to sanction the Economic Partnership Agreement reached between ECOWAS and the European Union. This is the third time the biggest market centre in the Ashanti region has been reduced to ashes this year. Luv FM’s Erastus Asare reports that over 60 shops in the Dr. Mensah section of the market dedicated to selling used clothes have been razed down amidst wailing from helpless market women. The Driver and Vehicle Licensing Authority (DVLA) will no longer register new vehicles with no seatbelts for passengers. This takes effect from September 2014. According to Rudolph Beckley, Acting Chief Executive of the DVLA, the decision not to register commercial vehicles without seatbelts was in conformity with Section 119 of the Road Traffic Regulation Legislative Instrument (LI) 2180. Four persons, including a two-year-old baby girl and her mother, died on the spot yesterday when a Mercedes Benz tipper truck, with registration number ER 2752 X, collided head-on with a KIA Pride taxi in which they were travelling. The Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG,) is collaborating with a Swedish company to produce 1000 megawatts of power using the environmentally friendly tidal wave technology. Starting Monday July 14, 2014, petroleum products fuel prices will be increased by 20% according to latest figures from the National Petroleum Authority (NPA). This will be the third time the NPA has increased fuel prices this year. The price of petrol (premium) saw the highest increase of 23.08 percent. This means a litre of the commodity, which currently sells at Ghc2.73 per litre, from Monday will sell at Ghc3.36 a litre. Kerosene saw an increase of 23.75 percent and diesel 22.01 percent. The Ghana Refugee Board (GRB) says it has received intelligence report that some Ivorian refugees living in refugee camps in the country are planning mayhem over irregular food rationing. An unidentified man was on Thursday found hanging in a church building at Bukankyi in the Ashanti Region, the police announced. The deceased, believed to be in his mid 30s, was found hanging in the Inspirational Assemblies of God Church. It is believed that he hanged himself at the sacred place during the night where nobody was around to see him. From very reliable contacts in the US, the Ashantis living in the United States of America have snubbed the Asante Overlord. The normal pomp accorded him whenever he visits the US since his ascendancy to the Golden Stool, has virtually evaporated into the thin air on his latest visit or arrival. One hundred and twenty pupil teachers sacked in the Upper Manya Krobo District are still on the Ghana Education Service’s (GES) payroll and receive their salaries every month. Investigations by the Ghana News Agency (GNA) revealed that the district is not faced with teacher deficit, rather the 120 sacked teachers falsified their documents. Ghana has joined other West African countries to abolish the residence permit system for citizens of member states. Currently, West Africa citizens are given a 90-day Visa free entry into any ECOWAS member country.
