Ghanaians have been asked to wear red attires today in a campaign dubbed ‘The Red Friday’ aimed at forcing government to address concerns raised in the ‘Occupy Flagstaff House’ petition. Members of the Teachers Educational Workers’ Union (TEWU) of the College of Health Sciences, University of Ghana Medical School at the Korle Bu Teaching Hospital have threatened an indefinite strike. Drivers in the Eastern Region are threatening to increase their fares due to the deplorable sate of road in the region Commercial drivers are contemplating on the 40% – 60% fare increment due to damage their vehicles suffer on the roads. The Ministry of Roads and Highways says it has not received any complaints from the Progressive Road Contractors Association over the financing of their projects. The contractors have abandoned all road projects due to government’s failure to direct funds into the Ghana Road Fund for the payment of work done. The Ghana Nurses and Midwives Trainees Association on Monday hit the streets of Accra to protest the non-payment of their allowances. The student nurses are also demanding the release of their clearance letters, the payment of book and research, clinical as well as transportation allowances due them for the past two years. The Mamobi branch of popular restaurant chain, Marwako, has been attacked by an angry mob. The attack took place at about 9 pm Saturday after the restaurant had hid a policeman, who was being sought by an angry mob for allegedly shooting a taxi driver to death. An American (name withheld) has been quarantined at the Nyaho clinic in Accra for a suspected Ebola case. Citi News sources at the Health Ministry say the American who reported at the hospital with fever had previously visited Guinea and Sierra Leone.
